Summary
A vivid and charming portrait of a large southern family, the Fairchilds, who live on a plantation in the Mississippi delta. The story, set in 1923, is exquisitely woven from the ordinary events of family life, centered around the visit of a young relative, Laura McRaven, and the family's preparations for her cousin Dabney's wedding.
Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "Each of these productions is a classic, worthy of multigenerational attention. All are unabridged and read by skilled readers who bring appropriate authority and credibility to the works. Jones, in Rough Riders, sounds like one might expect the rough-and-tumble president to sound, and Woods handles the often difficult dialects in Their Eyes Were Watching God with ease. The variety of this batch of new releases can't be beat, either. There's a tinge of history, a smidgen of satire, a once-lost masterpiece of Afro-American fiction, a touch of British-accented intrigue, and a family saga viewed through the eyes of a child. All come in sturdy plastic cases featuring graphics on the front cover and thorough descriptive blurbs on the back. ~--Barbara Diltz-Siler"
