Summary
A portrait of the Statue of Liberty, created by French sculptor Auguste Bartholdi. Includes archival photographs, paintings, drawings and readings from diaries, letters and newspaper accounts to tell the story of the statue's construction and installation. Interviews with Americans from all walks of life, including: New York Governor Mario Cuomo, writers James Baldwin and Jerzy Kosinski and musician Ray Charles. Film clips show Charlie Chaplin, Jimmy Stuart and Charleton Heston in Hollywood episodes with the statue.
