Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "As the former chairman of ALA's Buildings and Equipment Section, a university professor who taught design courses, and a library director, Lushington has a wealth of experience. In the preface he states this book is intended to be a one-stop resource for architects and librarians.  Logically organized, it begins with a discussion of how to improve library service with design and then continues on through the process of accessing needs and planning and furnishing library space for kids. The appendixes contain helpful worksheets, lists of architects and suppliers, and an annotated bibliography. The book is peppered with black-and-white photographs that are helpful but are not particularly high contrast, so sometimes it is difficult to see the details. (Maybe the publisher should consider making these available on an accompanying Web site.) Even with this minor shortcoming, this book is an excellent addition to professional collections in school and public libraries.--Helmer, Dona Copyright 2009 Booklist"
