YA service innovators Linda W. Braun, Hillias J. Martin, and Connie Urquhart explain how to be smart about taking risks without shying away from them.
Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "What a teen librarian does on the job is often risky. The authors all three experienced in youth services provide an overview of why teen librarians should be risk takers. Chapters cover collection development, authors, programming, and technology and social media. There are lots of specifics here about topics such as vendor outsourcing, explicit content, and thematic over Dewey decimal arrangement plus advice about good planning and keeping library staff informed. Examples, profiles of risk takers, and appendixes, including a number of YALSA documents, fill out this thoughtful volume. Interviews with Michael Cart, Barry Lyga, and others, plus quotes from YA blogs, provide lots of justification for supportive library service to teens. Experienced YA librarians won't need this, but it may inspire confidence in newbies.--Gooden, Susan Copyright 2010 Booklist"
