Tells the story of two women in Peru who are brought together by tragedy, Saturnina, a villager whose fiancée dies from mercury poisoning caused by the remanants of a long-dormant silver mine, and Grace, a shell-shocked ex-war photographer whose physician husband is killed by villagers that mistakenly attribute the poisonous outbreak to Western doctors working in the nearby Andean mountains.
