Summary
A young child's life is filled with many first time experiences. Whether it's their first day at school or the birth of a new brother or sister, this series helps introduce them to the ways children feel about first time events and what is involved with each.
Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "PreS-Gr. 2. In First Brother or Sister, part of the My First series, a boy and his mom are shown getting ready for the hospital and picking out baby clothes with Dad. Grandma comes to stay with the young narrator while mom delivers his baby sister. The baby eats (Mom nurses; the boy and his father help with the bottle), sleeps, and cries, and her big brother helps care for her. Though organized into chapters, the text has a limited word count and vocabulary; words in bold appear in a glossary, though definitions are imprecise and vague. The illustrations are clear, colorful photographs, and the text appears in word balloons or other-shaped insets (hearts, clouds, ovals) in a font that looks like a child's printing. A simple idea-driven book for larger libraries. --GraceAnne DeCandido Copyright 2004 Booklist"
