A beautiful picture book that tells children that it is okay to be afraid. Who was the mysterious Ti Bolom? Could he be real or was he just one of Grandma's inventions from her Caribbean childhood? Illustrator Caroline Binch and writer Trish Cooke--both acclaimed award winners--come together to tell this magical story of Grandma's rainforest adventure.

Booklist Review: "Every culture has its bogeyman, and in this, young Christopher learns about one from his Dominican culture: Ti Bolom. Recalling her own childhood, Grannie tells of the time she was brave, and a little mischievous, walking through the woods by herself to prove to Mammy that she was a big girl. Sure enough she heard the tell-tale footsteps (pattaps pattaps) and short breaths (huh huh huh) behind her. She runs, hides, turns to look, and sees nothing! Like Christopher, readers will be intrigued and wonder if Ti Bolom is real or not and, better yet, if he can be caught! The warmth of Grannie's tone and the affection evident in the character's expressions mitigate any creepiness a tale like this could potentially hold. Lush watercolors mirror the plot and let the reader in on the secret. This will make a great read-aloud, and youngsters will love chiming in with the call-and-response, eh kwik eh kwak. --Chaudhri, Amina Copyright 2015 Booklist"
