Summary
Sheriff Bruce Robertson is charged with finding a young Amish woman on the run from a murderous drug ring so she can testify in federal court. Wrestling with a recurring childhood nightmare of a deadly lion, the Holmes County sheriff finds himself torn between allegiance to the legal system he upholds and the beliefs of the people he is sworn to protect.
Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "Holmes County, Ohio, Sheriff Bruce Robertson has spent a nerve-wracked summer searching for signs of Fannie Helmuth, who fled his protective custody in the series' eighth installment (The Names of Our Tears, 2013) after agreeing to testify against a violent drug gang that was using Amish girls to mule drugs. Teresa Molina's gang has already murdered another Amish girl who threatened to reveal their crimes, and they haven't stopped looking for Fannie. When Fannie's best friend and partner in flight, Howie Dent, is found tortured and murdered in Holmes County, Robertson's suspicions that the gang has reached the Amish country enclave are confirmed. Now, he and Professor Michael Branden combine their gumshoe prowess to find Fannie before the killers do, determined to keep her safe as they eliminate the gang once and for all. Robertson meets the violence of Howie's death with a strategy based on unwavering faith in the power of honesty, an authentic response to encroaching violence from a community that's constantly striving for peaceful coexistence.--Tran, Christine Copyright 2015 Booklist"
