Summary
What do we mean by social class in the 21st century?
Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "Class, and the theories that seek to address it, is often at the forefront of political conversation nowadays. Unfortunately, politicians and citizens alike are often speaking past one another, using different meanings or confused definitions. In Class: A Graphic Guide, sociologists Harvey and Leaney provide some much-needed clarity by providing definitions and historical context for multiple interpretations of class as a concept. The guide is broken into three sections: mapping change and ideas over time; analyzing class in different spheres; and current debates about class. The book does not need to be read linearly and in many ways functions like a good textbook, offering just enough introduction to ideas to ensure clarity and a stable grounding for future reading and exploration. Noble provides illustrations (often darkly humorous ones) that add additional context and emotional resonance for the ideas presented textually. While the text can function on its own, the illustrations make the book more engaging than it would be otherwise. Class is a strong addition to the graphic guides series."
